RME Fireface 800 VS Apogee Ensemble

Post by Mzkguy » Sun Jan 02, 2011 4:18 am

I'm looking to upgrade from my DIGI 002 to a new interface. It's between the RME Fireface 800 and the Apogee Ensemble. I'm currently running PT 8.04 on a Mac Book Pro and Mac Book and I'll be upgrading to PT9 LE in the next few days.

Anyone out there shot out the 2 units? It seems like the RME is a better price point but Apogee has definitely got the name out there. I've heard some of the Apogee products but not the RME.

Thoughts?

I haven't compared the two but I think one reason the RME is cheaper is because they have one unit better than the model you are looking at, priced slightly higher than the Ensemble. What I don't like about the Apogee interfaces is that it is completely controlled in software.

I also had the same choice a bit back, and I decided to go with the RME. I've been happy with it so far, can't really comment on the ensemble...

There is a new upgraded version of the 800, called the UFX. I didn't spring for that one, it really just depends on what features you need.

Thanks for the replies folks. Funny that there aren't any Apogee replies though. Hmmmm.

Ok, I have the Apogee. I've had the Ensemble several years.I recorded hundreds of tracks on it, several CD's and just finished a film score It's been awesome. It replaced a MOTU 1296. I rarely use the mic pre's, but am happy with them when I do.
