Califone - any fans?

Diggin' the hell outta All My Friends Are Funeral Singers; it brings me back to, and is not so different from, Red, Red Meat.

Now, I like Calexico, also, but I always mix up these bands' names.

yes, i like califone very much. and i have that calexico problem as well.

i like how there are some really nice songs buried under there.

One of the Califone guys (Ben the percussion player) has been a very close friend for almost 32 years now. I own the studio where they record, and if you've seen the Funeral Singers film, I own the home (built in 1863) where it was shot. Much of the story and the bare bones of some of the songs were written in the house before there was even a conscious "project"... Tim likes ghosts, spent about a week in my place on vacation (I live in a different home these days), and what he saw and heard in the house and local area was enough to push him into gathering a bunch of his older undeveloped ideas into a story arc.

Three of the 4 guys are currently touring with Sam Beam's latest incarnation of Iron And Wine. That leaves Tim, and he's busy doing scoring and music direction in California these days. There is supposed to be more material at some point, but the touring and Hollywood schedules are making it pretty hard for the whole band to be in the same place at the same time right now.

Years ago (93? 94?), I had a demo recorded by Brian Deck at Idful. At that time Red, Red Meat was working and recording records.

Myself at the time, I was more into more straight ahead rock of like 11th Dream Day, etc.

In the years after, tho', I began to really appreciate them and got alla their records.

Now I gotta get the rest of the Califone's!
