getting electronic parts in Chicago
getting electronic parts in Chicago
Does anyone know where to get electronics stuff in Chicago? I usually go to Triode Electronics for my needs, and they are great. But they are closed until a week from Monday and I need a few more things for this year-end project I want do do while I am on vacation. I need:
24 gauge wire, twisted pair with shield
24 gauge wire, stranded
2 variable capacitors- 50-350 pF/600v
capacitor- 510 pF/600v
Radio Hut is useless on the wire- they don't have anything less than 22 gauge and it is all loosely wound and tarnished. I didn't even waste my time looking for the var. caps or the odd capacitor. I am planning on going to American Science and Surplus tomorrow, but they are pretty spotty when it comes to actually finding what you need when you need it.
I am attempting to build a tube opto compressor, based on the LA2a. I am using Jensen transformers and metal resistors, so it's not gonna be the real thing, but I hope (a) it will work, and (b) it will be useful.

You could try an electrician's supply place like Bright Electric/Crest Lighting on Sheffield, northside. Man there's another one that I like better on Madison, east of Ashland, but I can't remember the name. Try the yellow pages for Electrical supply... I would definately call first to make sure they've got what you need.
Maybe Speciman guitar shop?
good luck!

I've found that the guys at Accutrak recording in Arlington Heights were pretty good with giving out advice...even if I wasn't buying something from them at the time.

hey randy-
go to tri state electronics in mt. prospect, it's worth the drive. pretty much everything mouser or something would have...
http://www.tselectronic.com/
it's still sorta mom&pop, but more "organized" and a store than triode. not that triode isnt a store, but you know how triode seems like there's the crazy guy beind the counter and you just gotta ask, and they ferret around for a part, then bring it back. this place has aisles and you can browse shit... i was able to buy TL074s off the shelf there.
lemme know how the project turns out!
