Hugh Laurie "let them talk"

Post by Cyan421 » Sun Oct 02, 2011 2:02 pm

So did anyone else watch this show this weekend on PBS? It was pretty interesting to me, not knowing jack about this music. It was very well executed early jazz. But on top of that it was worth it just for the microphone porn. Tons of vintage ribbon mics on everything, even dangerously close to some saxophones.

i thought the best take was of St. James Infirmary (Toussaint conducting horns!). Loved the way Laurie's mic kind of spit and crackled at the start of the vocal.
PBS has been showing some fantastic music of late.
Village Idiot.

Nice call! I caught this last night. Other than the music being great, yeah I was hooked for all the mic shots. They really had the full business going for these performances. Someone knew what they were doing!
