Can you ID this electric guitar?

Post by Justine_X » Tue Jan 10, 2012 9:40 pm

Manowar alert! If you are offended by True Metal, please exit this post.

The guitar in question can be glimpsed at 0:45. A closer look can be had at 2:50, when Ross the Boss plays his fiery solo.

Making fun of Manowar never gets old... But I really do want to know what the guitar is!

It's a Dean ML, but if you really want that tone you're going to need the leather thong and fuzzzy boots too.

Wow...

I Don't think it's a dean....Unless the headstock was modified. I was thinking carvin, but it was hard to tell. Didn't peavey make some crazy looking guitars similar to that one too?

With that headstock it has to be a Hamer Blitz. Mick Mars has one or more I think. Late 70's, early 80's?

I worked for Manowar after Ross The Boss left. They have guitars custom made for them, so it might not be an 'off the shelf' guitar.

I'll see if I can find anyone that remembers.

I just got an email back from Ross, he said "It's called The Vulcan , made by Guliano Balestra in White Plains, only 3 or 4 were made and not made anymore"

He got it in 1982

Mystery solved.

Every once in a while, it's useful to have a token metal guy around.

The correct spelling of the luthier's name is Giuliano Balestra. He died of a hear attack in 2005.

Another person that used the Vulcan was Buck Dharma from Blue Oyster Cult.

More on the guitar maker... he called everything a vulcan apparently. Nice pics though..

Working for Manowar you must have epic spinal tap tales to tell.
