What is this Radio Shack EQ Everybody's Talking About?
A buddy of mine recently found one of the blackface Realistic 7-bands after a long search. He said he had read about it on here years ago, and had his eye out in pawn shops ever since. So he finally finds one (don't even ask me what he paid for it), brings it back to the studio, and hooks it up. Bummer... it works, but it's kind of noisy.
So, to clean it up, he sent it to a professional company that does mods. He is supposed to be getting it back soon... will keep y'alls posted.

Re: The build in question
RefD already broke it down like this:

you're looking for the blackfaced (enamel-finished 70s) version which are a bit difficult to come by anymore.
they are from different decades and the guts/construction are wildly different.

16 pages of BS. Till I see one, it doesn't exist.leigh wrote:RefD already broke it down like this:

Nope, God I have seen. 16 pages of discussion, still nobody can produce a picture or model number of this EQ.leigh wrote:Oh, I see... you're an atheist, then?Derrick wrote:16 pages of BS. Till I see one, it doesn't exist.

Nothing wrong with it if you are an atheist, of course! Just engaging in a little Socratic dialogue.Derrick wrote:Nope, God I have seen. 16 pages of discussion, still nobody can produce a picture or model number of this EQ.leigh wrote:Oh, I see... you're an atheist, then?Derrick wrote:16 pages of BS. I believe the model number was identified as 31-1989. That sound right?

I was going off this...
toothpastefordinner wrote:fair enough, I guess! It's the 31-1989. If you find one, crack it open, switch out the ceramic caps in the signal path with poly caps (the two-bit green caps from mouser/digikey are fine) and take it for a test drive!Bill @ Irie Lab wrote:It seemed that we hadn't determined which model was the desired unit, so I wrote about the box I knew something about...
