Bought the hype? Then bought the tunes? Disappointed?:)

Last Record Store, Santa Rosa, the "these Just In" rack, a chance to grab used stuff before it gets put out in the store proper...

Everybody goes on about Pink FLoyd. OOooo the Floyd!! Pink Floyd..whoohooo!!

Which one is Pink anyway..(ducks)

So I grab three of the 2011 remasters in the little mini album packaging.

Meddle,
Atom Heart Mother and
Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

Yuck. I mean the tune with the trem choppy "one of these days I'm going to..." is cool, but man.
Is it an acid thing? I guess I'm just not getting it. Are these "grower" albums.
I'm thinking somebody bought the box set, kept all the good ones and traded these in. Just dreck!

Ps anybody looking to buy three early Pink Floyd album remasters in cute little mini album format?

Well, you really haven't picked 3 of their strongest albums there (though Echoes off of Meddle may be my favorite Pink Floyd song).

If you want to hear the greatness of Pink Floyd, listen to:

The Wall
Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here
Animals
The Final Cut
"Politics are like sports, where all the teams suck"

What???

I can see your point with the other two, but Piper is a terrific record.

I can remember being in college in the early 80's (fuck, I'm old) and there was this cover band used to do parts of Meddle and Piper and I always enjoyed them more than any PF records.

Then somehow it became the fashion for dorm dooshes to crank Dark Side at 8:00 AM every Sunday - that alarm clock thing - and I was always hung-over, and so my dislike of the Floyd is Pavlovian ever since.

Altho' I have always loved "Comfortably Numb" ...

I was in a cover band (in the 80's; I'm almost as old as Vuv) that used to do "Fearless" off of Meddle. I still like that tune.

it's worth catching the full video of Live at Pompeii that the director posted to YouTube...worth seeing them as creative 20 something, performing Echoes and Atom Heart Mother Suite, but also has some great in-studio at Abby Road doing Dark Side. To each their own though...I like where they were at compositionally when they were younger and less Water's driven as much as I like the albums they are best known for.

tried to find the version the director had posted...but could only find this...

Hey! :x

I have long felt the best thing about Pink Floyd is Waters, and the band name, what seems somewhat like after a sex-act, but that could just be me.

And Dirty Sanchez.

Funny.. Meddle and Piper are my favorite Floyd albums...
Though yeah, most people seem to know Dark Side and The Wall (thanks to classic rock radio)

Meddle is my favorite.

AHM has moments that are awesome, but def. not a good intro to the band.

Never could get into any of the Sid era stuff myself.
