8 TRACK ONE INCH IN SF SOUGHT

I am seeking time with an 8 track 1 inch machine in the San Francisco bay area for transfer from 15 ips and 30 ips masters to Pro Tools @ 24/96. Not major artists, mostly old 70s unknown acts, for personal archives.

It's about 10 rolls of material. Also there are a couple of 16 track 2" reels.

All of the tapes are Scotch 206/207 and won't need baking but I'll do that anyway. Also I can provide the Pro Tools system if needed.

I just need an 8 track 1 inch 15/30 playback machine and a few hours. I can manage the engineering..and don't need the baking and inspection. I can even bring my own portable pro tools system if needed.

Surely there is someone with a home Scully, Otari, Studer, 3M m29 or 79, even an Ampex 8 track somewhere in the bay area! How about a Studer 8 track headstack kit? Portland? Willits?

Yeah, I took a look and I also like that web site of his.

So... yet another MM-1200 appears out of the woodwork. I'm so pleased when I find them being used.

Not forgetting your old favorite MM-1000 machines of course. A few folks still using them too. No chance of you reappearing on the Ampex Mailing List again? I used to enjoy your posts.

lol - 1200s are better machines, IMHO

that makes 4 8 track one inch machines in No. Cal studios

Agreed on MM-1200s (and the unfairly-maligned MM-1100s) being better than the MM-1000. Especially when fitted with my head assembly roller upgrade (little plug...).

If you include private studios, there's also an MM-1100-8 in Fresno that I originally rebuilt for a local musician a couple years back (before he himself moved to an MM-1100-16).

I don't think it is at Howard's home now. Larry Miller is not posting any more (I REALLY miss him) but Dale Manquen is back in action as of recently. Some great postings from him and Jay a couple weeks back about pinch roller theory and practice.
