Noise Reduction Plug in for ProTools?

Post by linsaysd » Tue Jan 15, 2013 10:04 am

Anyone have any suggestions for a Protools Noise Reduction plug-in<$100? Working on a documentary with some bad source audio (A/C, etc)

A friend recommended Bias' Sound Soap, but it is no longer available.

Suggestions? Thank YOU!

Waves NS1 Native is 200
Waves X Noise Native is 500
Waves WNS Noise Supressor is 600

I use those sometimes. They each do slightly different things, to me the best is the Noise

I have not really used other brands...

Cheers

Don't buy the $99 version of SoundSoap, even if you can find it used for $5. I made that mistake once, and I found it almost completely useless. I say "almost" because there's always that small chance that one day I'm going to want to make something sound like a cheap cassette that was dredged from the bottom of a lake, then dried on the back window shelf of a 1980 Plymouth Gran Fury.

Until then, it's useless.

that's funny. cause I had a request for a mix to sound like a melted cassette left on the dash of a Plymouth valiant on a balmy Atlanta summer. guess Soundsoap isn't for me either.

I can't recommend a good plug-in under $99 but

I have had good results using iZotope RX2 ($350)

I second the izotope RX2 bundle. Well worth it. Simple, effective noise tools.

If you are on PC, Voxengo Redunoise is stellar, $100, and much more configurable than the waves noise plugs. And it's just different than the Izotope tools. You'd need to have the vst-to-rtas adapter, a handy thing to have in any case. It runs very stable inside ProTools, and I've had astounding results with it working on very problematic audio post for video. Miracles.

If you really want to fix up audio, get Izotope RX2

RX2 has many modules, all with PT compatibility, with one for noise reduction, with a learning mode.

The spectral display of RX2 is magic to fix up audio. I especially like the Spectral Repair module to just transparently obliterate incidental noises.

RX2 Advanced even has azimuth alignment correction.

I did a pretty comprehensive review of these for SonicScoop a little while back.

My choice would probably be RX2.
