Let's talk sleeper vocal mic's
Let's talk sleeper vocal mic's
I've a few to speak of, but I'll start with a recent acquisition, the M-Audio Luna.
Inexpensive (discontinued?) eBog find, I think it's the transformer that's pleasing me so, round and solid vocals, a little hi-pass is all I need, no FET artifacts on my "sss's", no Chinese-fizz, it makes me sound more profound (deeper) and it looks cool. (I think I got very lucky at US$62, shipped).

those m-audio mics are deceptively decent. I have a Sputnik tube mic that hold its own against many big name ldcs. it's great for vox.
i agree with the re11. I have a pair of pl11's that I used for a live recording a while back. they were surprisingly great.
also, I'd recommend any of the AKG perception series. low dollar or very high quality results. I have a 200 that is great on vox.

Sony C48-nice FET-ty tight midrange,plus it's multipattern. Not too bright,great
room mic, nice on acoustic, nice as overhead.
AKG 452eb-Dunno if they're around much anymore-wish I could find another.
GREAT on F Vox. Bright, but surprisingly nice body.
Good luck.
Launching (outboard)analog for R24.

I have two of these. I really do need to make a drumkit setup of nothing but tube mics. Extremely underrated microphones, these.vvv wrote:I actually just got a MXLV96ME, which I like, because I so dislike the MXL9000 I have.
Ah, this weekend, if family permits.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Larger dynamic similar to a SM7 or Re20. (Note "similar" no claims on replacements for.)
You can remove some of the internal screen for vocal duties. Lovely on Kick and Amps.
I haven't paid more than $75 for either of mine.
I've been watching for some EV BK1's as well. Hand held condensors I have used for years. Had great success with male vocals. Can be used with a battery. So much for finding one cheap for myself now.

I've built a fun mic collection thanks to these types of threads. Looking forward to seeing what also pops up.

Now, tell me why did I do that?

+3 and it goes without saying that if you like the RE10 you'll like the RE15. The old giant chrome 664 is also pretty great. I find it pretty much interchangeable with the RE15 on lots of applications.losthighway wrote:+2 best $80 I ever spent.vvv wrote:+1
I have a RE10 is a go-to for me for BV's.
