signal chain was 2 kel-audio HM-1 mics (the old ones, they have newer versions now) and an Apogee duet (again, the older one). tracked in cubase and mixed in nuendo back at the studio. the loop that goes throughout was some serendipitous power glitch from the doric organ that happened when we were starting el capistan.
everything was overdubbed to a click, starting with the drums. the only time the band recorded together was in the bridge section when the red lights go on (the crews use those to simulate night so they can sleep), and that's overdubbed on top of individual tracks playing the same (or similar parts).
we figured there'd be opinions on the level of indie hipsterdom and what not, but hell - it looked and sounded really interesting in there and we (mostly) had fun.
i don't know if it's more or less indie-shmindy, but the studio version of the song starts with a 1/2" 8 track tape loop i made on an old tascam reel. here it is if anyone's interested:
