hello people,

first of all here's a photo for you:

now, except for the boss dd, the rc loop station (i guess) and the walkman (which by the way does anyone have any idea what purpose it could serve on stage?), could you identify the rest of em?

That orange pedal is a DOD FX55c - Supra Distortion. That blurry pedal looks like another Boss DD. And the mixer thingy in the middle is a Behringer mixer - a Xenyx 802.

I would guess the walkman could be used to play samples.
The extra wire coming out the back could be a play/pause button.
I used to play a star trek sound-effects tape this way.

not sure i get your suggestion vvv, i mean the loops are already recorded into the loop station, and to record the whole performance into a walkman from onto the stage seems like a wierd choice.

i think it's used to add an atmosphere into the background, white noise etc... to make it more of a space like experience.

If this is for loopy/noise/ambient/improv kinda stuff, is there any chance that they're using the AM/FM tuner in the walkman?

I've seen people in concert (Kevin Devine's band, for one) use a walkman held up to their guitar pickup for a cool lofi kind of sound. Nice alternative to just playing a sample, certainly more interesting to see.

electro voice you mentioned the extra wire in the walkman could serve as a play/pause button. could you hand out more details as to how it works? is there a pedal to play/pause tape that one could purchase?

Is it possible that the extra wire is just an AC adaptor so he's not on battery power?

Looks like they're taking the headphone out maybe. Likely just a tape of ambiance/noise/pre-recorded stuff.

Whose setup is this?

It could be some kind of synthy oscillator thingy (Monotron, Monotribe, etc.), but since he's srumming and plucking what looks like the D-string while he adjusts with his other hand, I'm going to guess that it's some kind of analog delay pedal set to "self-oscillate"/infinite repeat. Once you get the self-oscillating feedback rolling, you can manipulate the pitch, timbre, and "warble" by messing with the "time" and "rate" knobs...

Certain brands/models had an output for a pause button, for dictation and things. I would just go to a thrift store and look for one. Personally I just glued a button to the top of the pause button and used my foot to turn it on and off.
