FYI everyone I have the Deadroom II and these things are AWESOME for the studio. I'm posting a review here because I love mine so much and I NEVER see these up for sale. They are rare.

Not only will it keep neighbors happy in apartments but it will also come in handy when you place a band live in the same room and want iso to cut down on some bleed, want to reamp vocals through an amp/echoplex, etc. You can swap out speakers, use two mics (all mogami cable inside of mine). This thing is a real deal for $300. I've used mine on every record that I have worked on since I bought it in 2009. I'm about to pick up a 4-ohm 12" speaker for mine (it has a celestian vintage 30 clone in it now at 8-ohms) and experiment with building a 10" speaker adapter for it as well.

I find that it works great for close-micing situations. It just does the trick. There is room to back off a bit, but unfortunately you can't really ambient mic in these things. You can with the lid open, of course. But again, that's not really what they are for. It's a speaker in an iso box for an amplifier for close-micing. It you hit it too hard it can sound a little boxy, but a powerbrake or whatever solves this issue. So does a volume knob.

With that said, you can also use it on stage in a situation where volume is an issue and you have great monitoring.
