Inexpensive Nearfield Monitors - $400 or so
Hi. The place where I work has a small video edit room and they want to upgrade their crap speakers to some nearfield monitors. They asked me for a reco. I'd prefer to go self powered. I know Mackie has a product for about $150 per. And Yamaha has the H5S. Any suggestions I can check out reviews on? Or experience with a set of speakers you're happy with? I'm figuring around $400 for the spend. Thanks.

the KRK RP5 MKIII or whatever they are called now are not anything I'd want to mix on, but for post they are great.
I would say that the facility I work for has the HS50's in every room that isn't Genelec. The Yamahas are not bad at all. For that money I'd go Equator, however the KRK's are just stupid cheap.

We purchased Equator D5s to use in the field, and ended up installing them in a rough mixing/editing room. Truly incredible, for the price. The imaging holds its head up with the best of them. If only Equator produced a proprietary sub? One can dream.
Best.
