Mega-board

Post by apropos of nothing » Thu Jul 20, 2017 7:14 am

I'm super-glad the forum has been updated and your signaled support!

So, not to be too choosy as a beggar, but could we please have the mega-board back? (Hey, at least I'm not asking for off-topic. )

I took a look at it, and it was a custom roled thing.

Time and effort to get it back in place would be big, and it would have to be reimplemented anytime the forum software is upgraded.

So unfortunately, it went the way of the dodo.

Sorry for that.

I agree, though I understand if it's complicated...

I may be in minority here, but since the forum traffic is relatively light these days, megaboard and bst was all I looked at. I'm generally not gonna go through all the sub forums.

That said, maybe would be feasible to consolidate all into one discussion forum instead of several sub forums?

Again, I'm probably in the minority here...but that's what I think would make sense unless traffic picks up here.

Thanks

I had that thought as well.

Perhaps it's time to bring back General Recording, and merge some of the forums.

I can float the idea around. Feel free to comment here if you have merger proposals.

Yeah might be worth seeing what other members think, I don't speak for everyone but I would just like to make the most of the forum until it builds up the kind of traffic that would justify sub forums.

Thanks for looking into it.

is the mega board the "new posts" link that used to be in the top right corner? where you could click it and any new post since you'd last been on would appear?

if so, yes i loved that feature and do miss it. it made it easier to "catch up" on posts. so condensing forums would make sense in that regard. Here's some ideas:

General Recording (merge Gear Talk, Recording Techniques, Computer World, DIY Gear, Making A Space)
Tape Op Magazine (keep as is)
Buy/Sell/Trade (keep as is)
People/Places/Things (Merge this with people Skills)
Listen to My/Other Stuff (Merge these 2)

that's the best i got.

Yes, this.
If it was up to me, there would be two forums: General Recording, and Off-topic.

The people (including me) who caused trouble in off-topic back in the day are all old and (somewhat) respectable now... even the offshoot forum that got started when off-topic was shut down is staid and boring these days. Nothing to worry about.

New posts is still there. Click on Quick links menu up left, new posts, as well as some other options.

Your combination of forums is also what makes the most logical sense.

There should be a new forum Thread for off topic and General recording to spout all the nonsense things! 8)
