CITES, or how they harsh yer wood
CITES, or how they harsh yer wood
As postered in the "Latest Shit Ya Git" thread, I ordered a real pretty Revelation RTF 60 offset guitar from Ye Merry Olde for an excellent "best offer" price. Paid it, and the order cleared. A cuppla weeks later and I get a notice from the Ebog that the shipment was rejected due to CITES. Yep, it has a rosewood fingerboard.
The Ebog said:
"RESTRICTED ITEM
We are writing to inform you that your recent GSP transaction from simmondsmusic cannot be completed.
The item was stopped at the Global Shipping Center, and has been restricted from international shipment. The item will not be shipped forward to its final destination.
Under the terms of the Global Shipping Program, you will automatically receive a refund for the full purchase price plus all GSP program fees."

Re: CITES, or how they harsh yer wood
yep, that's how it is now. if you use it for personal use and travel (aka flyout gig internationally) you should be fine they say, but some famous musicians have already posted about getting vintage stuff confiscated.
honestly if you're leaving the country to gig, bring either a cheap instrument that wont' hurt if it gets confiscated (mexican fender bass/guitar) or have something already setup for loan/rental in the foreign country to use so you don't have to bring one.
FWIW the CITES people have stated they realize its unjustly targeting musicains and want to revise it to get it corrected, but their convention and voting isn't for a year or something.

Some glitch in fleaBlah's GSP, misinterpreting vintage tubes as containing toxics - mecury gas/ radioactive material.
Village Idiot.

All I can say is if they do it to Irish whiskey I'm really gonna be pissed.
Re: CITES, or how they harsh yer wood
Yeah, on Canadian whisky
The previous statement is from a guy who records his own, and other projects for fun. No money is made.

Interesting point.
I bet CITES applies to Canada, also.
