February’s MSP Audio Geeks meetup is Wednesday, February 28th from 7-9pm at The Resonance Box.

From the website:
The Resonance Box is a small initiative with the intention of bringing focus to the world of auditory experiences. Hearing has not only been a way for us to enjoy beautiful music, but it has also played a key role in our survival as a species. Sound continues to stay an important aspect of our research into the unknown territories of the cosmos. We hope to bring attention to this wonderous sensory process and the exploration of it by human kind in different realms, from art, to science, to math and physics.

Aida Shahghasemi is a Minneapolis based vocalist and musician. She studied Psychology and Anthropology at University of Minnesota with a focus on the restrictions of the voices of female vocalists in Iran, where she was born and raised until the age of thirteen. She received her Masters degree from New York University in Art and Public Policy, exploring her interests in the intersection of art and socio-political movements. She has worked with different New York and Minnesota based social justice art organizations and has served as an assistant director at Hamline University’s Making Waves Social Justice Theatre Troupe. She is a recipient of 2017 McKnight music fellowship.

I don’t live in Minneapolis these days, but you ever hear any inside details on the closure of McNally Smith College of Music? As an alumni, I found the official answer a bit fishy..

July 2018 MSP Audio Geeks meetup - Tuesday 7/31

Post by audiochick » Fri Jul 27, 2018 10:00 am

The July 2018 MSP Audio Geeks meetup is this Tuesday, July 31 from 7-9pm at Runway Studios. Jason Miller is our host. Jason thought it'd be fun to do a reverb plugin shootout. Bring your favorite reverb plugins & your iLoks!

From the website:
In 1988, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis built a private recording studio called Flyte Tyme Studios where they recorded over a hundred gold and platinum albums with artists including Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, and many others before moving to Los Angeles in 2002. Thirty years after Flyte Tyme started, the facility is transforming into a multimedia studio complex open to the public called Runway Studios.

Runway offers no-compromise studios specifically designed for media freelancers. We have recording spaces and control rooms that are second to none and integrate seamlessly into the home studio workflow.

We believe that a vibrant, creative community thrives when artists are able to interact and connect with each other and we are excited to have musicians, photographers, producers, and videographers all working under one roof.

Post by audiochick » Tue Nov 06, 2018 8:31 am

The November 2018 MSP Audio Geeks meetup will be on Tuesday, November 27th from 7-9pm at Sovereignty Recording. Justin Muffett and Kenny Befus are our hosts.

From the website:
We do things a little differently here at Sovereignty Recording…. more importantly, we really like to do things your way. As a recording artist, you have more options now than ever before when it comes to recording, producing, and releasing music. We know this. Our goal is to enable you to own your sound and do it in an affordable manner.

We’re in the scene…
We aim to be fully engaged with the Twin Cities music scene and support the artists who are making good music. We’ve done our best to maximize quality vs. cost on our end and do our darndest to pass that savings on to our clients (SHARE THE LOVE!). Be sure to check out the work we are doing with Pony Rug when you get a chance – we are strongly aligned with their vision: to expose and support local musical talent.

We’re flexible…
Wanna do a full-length album at our studio? Great, we can do that! Just need need a kick-ass drum track for 1 song on your upcoming full-length album? Also great! We are as excited about small projects as we are large projects. Whether you simply need a vocal track, or a drum track, or even just a few hours in the studio to hash ideas out, we can make that happen.

We love drums…
We’ve got a great room for tracking drums (and everything else, of course!). We know that getting solid drum tracks can be one of the biggest challenges when you’re trying to produce and record on your own and without dropping $$$. We can help with that.

Post by audiochick » Sat Jan 05, 2019 1:57 pm

After much deliberation, we have decided to cancel tonight's meetup on account of the windchill. Please stay safe tonight.

We're working with Lance to figure out a new date, hopefully in the near future.

The January 2019 MSP Audio Geeks meetup will be on Tuesday, January 29th from 6-9:30pm at Black Label Music. Lance Conrad will be our host.

About Black Label Music: Launched in 2015, Black Label Music specializes in high-quality custom music for commercial, branded entertainment, TV and film projects. Founded by composer Ken Brahmstedt, Black Label Music boasts a creative team with decades of well-established experience in advertising, film and emerging media. In addition to original content, Black Label also provides music supervision and a la carte audio branding services. With our staff of uber-talented composers and our extensive network of world-class and emerging composers, Black Label is a one-stop shop for meaningful audio content.

About Lance: Lance W Conrad has credits with artists spanning the world. Upon completing a degree in music production, he worked as live sound FOH engineer and freelance recording engineer for 4 years before founding Humans Win Recording Studio in 2006. Lissie, DeVotchka, The Fray, Modest Mouse, Owl City, Dessa, Lizzo, Belle & Sebastian, The Jayhawks, and over 200 more graced Lance’s studio in Northeast Minneapolis between 2008 and 2018. As producer and freelance music composer, he has placements with Netflix, ABC, NBC, CBS, HBO, and more, and companies like Target, Nike, Miller Brewing, Volcom, and more. As an avid collaborator, he has co-written work with both independent and major label writers including Dan Richards and Liam Payne (One Direction), Jerry ‘Wonda’ Duplessis (Fugees, Melissa Etheridge, Platinum Sound Studios), and Ashley DuBose (NBC’s The Voice). His reputation as one of Minneapolis's most referred event DJ's speaks for itself as he has played over 450 successful events. In the spring of 2016, shortly before Prince's tragic passing, he was honored with an offer to engineer at Paisley Park. Come 2018, he picked up and moved into a room at Black Label Music in downtown Minneapolis.

Invite your friends & join us for an evening of audio geekery! All are welcome to attend. Feel free to BYOB. If you are planning to attend please RSVP to mspaudiogeeks at gmail dot com.
