What to do with a pair of NS-10s, half working

Post by mwerden » Thu Aug 23, 2018 9:14 pm

I acquired a pair of NS-10s. Meh cosmetically, one works fine and the other doesn't work at all. Turns out replacement speakers are damn expensive - who knew?

So... What would you do? Sell as is? Is there any world where it's worth it to fix them up before selling? Tell me what you know.

The Auratone company used to make speaker replacements for these... I think.

There may be someone out there with speaker replacement.

Hope you find some.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

I know I heard about a company making new replacement cones/drivers specifically for NS-10s... I'll have to see if I can find out more.

Seems prohibitively expensive to get new drivers and get everything running again. I'm inclined to go with the "Boat Anchor" analysis.

"doesn't work at all" tells us just about nothing, but it almost rules out blown speakers. It would take something really fucked up to blow both drivers at the same time. It might be something simple like an input wire come loose. Maybe something screwed up in the crossover network. You should take them apart and figure out what's actually wrong before you go buying components that might not fix the issue.

Then, if the woofer works, use it for a subkick mic. 8)
