Adding Center Detent Pan Pots to a TEAC Model 1 Line Mixer?
the pan pots on this are continuous and do not have a detent. This bothers me because i'm worried stuff won't be true Center. Eventually i need to use this to submix for bounces or a real mix, and i'm wondering how easy it would be to just pull the pan pots and replace with a similar value and taper and just have the detent. or is it more complicated than that? any help or advice is appreciated.

i've reached out to revive audio to see if they would mod it to have center detent and be compliant with Pan law.

It's worth keeping in mind that pots are commonly rated at =/- 20%, +/-10% if you spend more. So, since you're matching two decks on a pan pot, you have the potential (though it's not likely) for a dual 10K to have one deck 12K and the other 8K. And there's also the possibility that (even if the pots are more accurate than that), your "center" would be at 4.8K or 5.2K.
A center detent might give you a sense of security, but it doesn't necessarily make for accuracy in panning.

That's so true about center detent never being "true". I've talked to people like Dan Kennedy at Great River about this in depth. The only way to get true center is to hardwire a "pan cutoff" like I have on my RND 5088 console, but removing the pan bumps the ch level up 3 dB!

plus the bleed factor of tape and channel jumping on analog mixers could be issues in some cases

revive audio said it's beyond their skill set. i guess i'll just try and "center" them best i can without the detents when i make scratch mixes.

sending a test tone through a channel and hooking up the LR outs to a pair of calibrated VU, digital, or AC voltmeter to find the center might work

∆∆∆∆∆∆ this.
I would use tones to find the centre spot and then mark it on each channel with a grease pencil or sharpie.

+1
Mebbe easier might be to send the same signal to the individual channels, but use the same VU meter to calibrate each channel ...

old analog stuff is old analog stuff
it'll prob never be precise unless it's top quality vintage and tech serviced to a ridiculous degree
I'd add using test tones at a frequencies where the sound you're trying to center lives in will work better than like a 1k all around
old caps and resistors don't degrade evenly throughout the spectrum
