EV 665 or Senn 441 are my faves. How far it peeks over the rim of the kick determines kick/ snare balance, angling left to right balances the toms.
Am I right to think the 664 & 665 are the same mic with different finishes?

Don't know about the 665 but I have read that the 664 uses the same, altho' not "sorted" capsule as the 666, with a smaller mic body.

I mix with olive juice.

Today I tried an M88 peaking over the rim of the BD, with no additional processing and it sounds really cool. Just a nice added beef to the sound. The player wasn't great, so I think I may lay into this mic a lot for the mix.
