Waddaya's workin' on this Forf weekend?

Post by vvv » Fri Jul 05, 2019 5:54 pm

Yesterday I did guitars on 5 new original songs, took about 7 hours (mebbe 12 tracks?). Used my live pedal board with a SX1 Tele into an Electar amp, mic'd with an old AKG dynamic into an ISA1.

Also did two vocals, using a Genesis FET into a Eureka into an RNLA.

I did the drums (edited net downloads) on Sunday and Mon and wrote the music on and played the the bass (Fernandes 4 into my live bass board to an Ampeg BA108, mic'd with a PV5201 into a The Brick and a VC3Q) on Mon and Tues; I wrote the lyrics on Wed.

Today was all about the mixing - I'm feeling pretty mixed out, been going pretty steady since noon, taking 10 every hour or so.

I'll mebbe publish tomorrow or Sunday.

Wha' did alla yooze dun?

Working on week 2 of the family vacation in Denmark. Today we're in Arhus (the second largest city) and it's fantastic.

Grilling meat on the BBQ.

Watching some superhero movies with the kids.

Swimming in the lake.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

There's an acoustic song that's been giving an artists a hard time, so that's been a bit of the focus. I'm reviewing the new Rode TF-5, and they sound quite nice on acoustic guitar.

Kind of a light weekend.

I did post my project you can find in the listening section.

Right now I'm burnin' a cuppla bootlegs (authorized) of one of my fave bands, Dream Syndicate - hadda raise track levels and cut some extraneous applause to fit on CD's.

I recorded this in honor of July 4th, 2019.

It's very weird. Recorded on Fostex 8-track. I don't feel like it made the jump to digital very well. It sounded so much better monitoring straight out of the mixer. Any tips for encoding something with so much low end rumble to digital would be appreciated. You might want to keep your volume low until you see how this interacts with your woofers.

Most of the low end rumble is a mostly unmuffled 26" bass drum played very, very quietly and mic'd very, very closely.

Almost forgot: Please steal my drum tracks. and more.

Lots of yardwork, cleaned out the house pretty good for a BBQ party I hosted on the fourth. Finished making curtains for the room I've been fixing up downstairs, so that's done finally.

Musically, getting back in touch with guitar after doing a little thing playing piano, specifically a Wurlie 200 I fixed up. Had to spend all my practice time doing the piano thing for the past three months and let other things lapse.

I've been buttoning up another round of stems for a buddy's project. Main tracks done at my place. Overdubs in his apartment. Back to me for mix.

Not too tough to navigate except we're using different software platforms so it's a little more file maintenance than sharing Pro Tools stuff.

tracked some drums Saturday for a new song one of my band's is working on. then got some new ideas (as I was sleeping it seems...) and re-tracked it again today (to a scratch track). I think it's gonna work. and at some point over the holiday weekend, overdubbed tambourine on another track, modded some tube mics (TCM1050's), stripped down a vintage Ludwig kit and started cleaning it up, and recorded another drum track for someone else. where did the week go?
