Just snagged an Equalux. I may have to flip it because life sucks, but I'm excited to try it out. I'm happy to find out that the frequency selection pots are not stepped. Being able to just turn and listen is so nice.Nick Sevilla wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 9:12 amhttps://www.sphererecordingconsoles.com ... s-outboard
He has some used 500 series Tonelux modules. See if he still has them, they are stellar.
Designed by my friend Paul Wolff, who also designed the API back in the day.

Re: 500 Series EQ
Picked up a 553F kit from CAPI. I am curious to see what it sounds like.
Yes it is a very involved build. Probably going to take me 2 weeks at the general pace I go.
Misplaced my multitester during a move, so I am off to the nerd store in Gowanus.
I actually need the tester just to discern the resistors from each other. I just cannot distinguish the color bands on something so tiny, even with my glasses on. (shakes fist at time, which waits for no one).
If this works out I may get a half dozen of theirs.
My eyesight may be less than 100% but I can see plenty good to solder. Even on these postage stamp sized PCBs.
I wish the BT50 was in stock!

if you don't have one already, a magnifying glass (lighted is even better) is very helpful along with the "helping hands" tool (amazon or Harbor Freight even has them)

Also a Panavise. That made a HUGE difference.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 11:00 amif you don't have one already, a magnifying glass (lighted is even better) is very helpful along with the "helping hands" tool (amazon or Harbor Freight even has them)

yeah, what he said... Panavise is the "name brand". "helping hands" is the cheapo knock off I have.

Re: 500 Series EQ
Not having a Panavise is like not having an SM57.
I don't even have one of those helping hands gizmos.

But you see that they are not the same thing, right? I'm just trying not to confuse the OP.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 12:39 pmyeah, mine is like the 2nd link you posted - I think I paid $5 at Fry's. it does the job though.

It's cool, I've owned a Panavise for years.
