I bought the new Beauty Pill and X records the day Bandcamp was giving all the money to the artists and not taking a cut. Maybe I'll listen to them. I might go practice at the studio.

Working on arrangements for a friends record. He's one of the best drummers around and it gives me great joy to be playing drums on his tunes (even if they're only scratch tracks).

Finishing up the mastering on a 17-song record of really, really nice acoustic guitar pieces. When I'm done with that I'm gonna practice guitar, because inspiration.

I'm about to go practice a drum part to a click. My friend used to do a Denver-Does-Denver concert where locals covered other locals. Like everything else, it's gone to an online, post your video type of deal. I'm working on a cover of an old favorite.

I've been doing one man band recordings, and I'm the meanest producer of myself about the drums. For whatever reason I don't mind a little guitar slop, but I really like to start with a tight foundation.

I massaged drum tracks, downloads, two-mixes and loops into 4 song arrangements, and played the bass parts: two fretless, one Sandman slide, and one Fernandes MM style bass.

Tomorrow I'll do some vox and geetars ...

i love mark sandman and morphine. that slide bass thing was so innovative at the time.

i had a rehearsal for the first time in many months with my jazz trio. did some steely dan tunes and took em to outer space. it was fun.

"Sandman slide" is two-string bass (I use a bad Japanese Rick copy) played with a slide, like Mark Sandman in the band, Morphine. I played through a Soul Food to my Ampeg BA108.

The other refers to a Fernandes Tremor bass with a Music Man style pick-up (passive EQ), Lindel to the Ampeg.

All mic'd with an SM7b and paralleled thru a Brick to dbx 160XT, and a Meek VC3Q.

They were a great band, got to see them a bunch back in the day. Can still vividly remember what I was doing when I found out he'd died.

"Cure for Pain" is one of the best records ever to come out of Boston.

What about "More Than a Feeling"?

Seriously, I'm a huge fan, but only saw 'em once. Still, they were an influence, and I did get to add a sax player to my then-band for a cuppla gigs.

More recently, I actually did a CraigsShit ad but couldn't get any takers.

But I continue to play 2-string slide bass, altho' I find it is best for original compositions.

I'm taking today off, but for the last couple weeks I've been recording drums remotely for a bunch of folks at the studio, including a couple of TOMB members. It's been a lot of work, but it's been fun! After a friend called and asked if I was able to do this (I had been mixing a bunch of stuff from home for about six weeks prior), I put out a few feelers to see if anyone else was interested, followed by Facebook and Instagram posts offering some deals to do this. I got one project from Chicago, one from DC, one from Florida, and three local ones. Plus a couple of other inquiries that haven't firmed up yet. So it looks like I'll be doing this for at least a couple more weeks.

Heh. That first Boston record is pretty unfuckwithable IMO. You gotta love a record where the guitar player did almost all of it in his basement, AND the producer wisely realized this was absolutely the right way to go and lied to the record company to keep them out of Sholtz's hair.

The other best record to come out of Boston is obviously the Cars first one.

Honorable mention to my friends in Ho-Ag for "Doctor Cowboy".

You’re forgetting the Modern Lovers first record. Maybe it doesn’t count though because it was recorded in LA.
