Totally. I messed around a little last night, into a $1000 tube DI that I'm reviewing for the magazine.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 6:11 amHa! it's Mr. Microphone in a can!drumsound wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 9:53 pmI got a soup can reveb mic (who'd a thunk it?) on Reverb. Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Monoprice has a boundary microphone in their stable right now, was discounted down to $35 last week so I ordered 2 (not received yet).
Always wanted my own 421s and always need more at the studio so i ordered 2 (not received yet).
Been skeptical but finally pulled the trigger on a Gamechanger Audio (cringey name I know) Third Man Plasma Coil. I received this yesterday, it’s super cool, so far only tried on bass VI but damn there’s some riffs in this. I don’t really even like fuzzes but this does a lot more for me than other fuzzes, and is way more usable. Also looks cool and is physically heavy AF. Endless bottom too..
In the process of converting my Honda Element into a camper for covid 19 road trips. Pulled out the back seats, someone locally had already built a bed platform but selling because they now have children...so that was easy, just put that in back. And oh yeah, some needed maintenance on the vehicle to keep her on the road.
For said road trips wife decided we needed a new camera. After a massive ordeal with BH Photo Video (seriously screw these guys, I am over them for life after this mess) and FedEx, finally ended up just buying one on Facebook marketplace...got a Fuji XT3 and some lenses and such...
Phew

DIY Hamptone J-FET mic preamp.
As usual I'm cheating a little on the "acquired" part, since I built this out of parts on-hand. In fact, I bought all the parts back when the article was printed in 2004, and only now got around to putting it all together. Was sitting on about $200 worth of transformers for the better part of two decades! Other parts came from deep in my junk box - can anybody identify the switches?

I think I had some old McCurdy console modules with those dayglo green switches once upon a time--I'm sure they've been used elsewhere as well.

The sale was too good. I've been thinking about buying one for like a decade, I guess today was the day to drop a couple hundred on a fun new dynamic. We'll see if it can steal my heart as a tom mic and then I'll buy another, or it's just another handy multi-purpose dynamic.

Bass amp, and guitar amp. Snare too sometimes (if you can get the hats up and out of the way).losthighway wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 4:43 pmSenn MD421

I pulled a sweet Leslie-style baffle out of an old solid-state organ I found on the curb.
