bass drum mic - front or back?
Re: bass drum mic - front or back?
I do Ringo style, but sometimes put a mic next to my head to pick up whole kit including bass drum.

The mic next to the drummer's head OH can work really well.

So many times I've been tempted to put a mic upside the drummer's head!

Re: bass drum mic - front or back?
Well, a mic hitting a mic stand kinda goes "clang".
But a mic hitting a drummer's head - properly tuned-up, see - goes "thud".
So, one is often ever so much more satisfrying than t'over.
Finally, a mic stand hitting a drummer's head is best for solos, what no one ever really needs to hear.

I've met Elvin, I can tell you HE is not someone to tangle with! Your general moaner or groaner probably isn't a problem unless the music is delicate.

Yep, it's the screamers is often a problem.
On them, ya wanna use shotgun mic like a baseball bat, see.

This thread makes me sad.
I thought this was a safe space.
Anti-drummer sentiments are real and can be hurtful.
We've seen where violent rhetoric leads.
I'm not even kidding.
I love you all.
But can you refrain from discussing how you would best assault me?

Sorry to make you feel bad Snarl. It's not fun if everyone doesn't find it fun. Truly sorry.Snarl 12/8 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:33 pmThis thread makes me sad.

No, no, no.
I don't want to spoil anyone's fun. Especially a fellow drummer. And I don't want history revised. It's just these times. But I'm not steamed up or triggered over this. I just wanted to put my perspective down for the record. I really love this place.
