Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )
Thanks for those Mike.
Metal is of course a vast and varied 'attitude' genre comprised of everything from hard rock to funk-hair- thrash-, heavy,-classic, death, doom, stoner etc..and I haven't bought much in a long time. but here's some of the more metallic smelling vinyl I've managed to acquire over the years..

Speaking of party music...Shot from a late 80's off at school photo album. Note article on "How cds are changing rock'n'roll". And the cassettes and Vodka. Everybody's vinyl was passed around so we had lots of cassettes. Was popular to hang speakers from ceiling in mesh nets for perfect angled placement.

My thought was a razor blade and a small plastic baggie (it being the 80s & all.)
Of course, back then, we were a little more discreet about these things.

well, you did have to send the film in to get it developed, (unless you had your own darkroom). I never heard of anyone getting busted for incriminating evidence reported from film development. Who knows, maybe it happened if your roll was particularly blatant/egregious? Totally different time. I do remember a guy who used to pose next to prized plants wearing a backpack like he had randomly come across an exiting specimen while on a hike.

"exiting specimen" - I bet you meant existing, but it still works!

I'm not here on TOMB daily, sometimes not even weekly, and I can be pretty dozy and unobservant but, while reading everyone's music picks for 2023, I suddenly realized that @shedshrine was MIA, apparently has been since mid 2022. Did I miss something (hopefully nothing tragic!) or did he just move on?

Hello Jim, thank you for the concern. Fortunately the rumours of my passing have been greatly exaggerated. I had kind of peaked in my vinyl collecting i suppose, these are pretty much all I've obtained since the last post on here. My wife's parents in Japan have been having health issues, and our daughter has been studying over as well so we visited there again and most of these are from that visit last year.jimjazzdad wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 8:24 amI'm not here on TOMB daily, sometimes not even weekly, and I can be pretty dozy and unobservant but, while reading everyone's music picks for 2023, I suddenly realized that @shedshrine was MIA, apparently has been since mid 2022. The three chrome cyclinder things on the table there..a Christmas present of pasta making attachments for a KitchenAid mixer.
Adding to the simple pleasures: pour-over coffee, fresh bread with a breadmaker, and now fresh pasta.
My uncle who passed last year loved working with stained glass and had made us a Japan themed table awhile back. Its surface was uneven due to all the various glass involved making it awkward to place glasses on, so i hit upon removing the table legs and back-lighting it as wall art this winter.
The Japanese vinyl: Picked up more for my Holdsworth collection. His albums with Gong, Soft Machine, U.K and Jean-Luc Ponty. Also picked up a copy of Hawkwind's Space Ritual with that 9 panel or so fold out cover. and for fun, a copy of the remastered Tangerine Dream Phaedra on orange vinyl I found that was too reasonable to pass up.
Stateside: Blue Note's recent reissue of Ronnie Foster's 'Freap'.

You could, if you learn how or get a local craftsman to do it, make a small frame surround on the "top" side of the table, and have clear epoxy poured onto it, while the surface is laid flat. That would give you a flat surface. It does not need to be thick.
Sorry for your loss.shedshrine wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 8:06 pmMy uncle who passed last year loved working with stained glass and had made us a Japan themed table awhile back. Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Hi Nick, thanks for the idea. Its a good one and I'll keep that in mind.
We have really taken a liking to it as wall art though,
and my uncle's family approves as well so for the time being at least
it shall remain vertical.

Good coffee, fresh bread, homemade past and vinyl...may the simple pleasure continue to grace all of us in 2024. Glad to see another of your 'photo spreads' and thanks for checking in.
