I'd say Coles 4038 as well. But yeah, pricey. The first time I put up a pair I couldn't believe how big and full the toms sounded. No close mics required.

Been on my "want list" for awhile now. A pair of Coles is never going to happen.Recycled_Brains wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 10:25 amProbably best case scenario.
On the "cheaper" side of things, sE VR1's would probably be pretty sweet too. I use them as OHs a lot and love em for that.

Ribbons are really good for that type of capture. They pick up the beefy toms in a really different way than condensers.Colorblind wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 7:49 amI'd say Coles 4038 as well. One of my favorite records I ever made has a mono 635a overhead.

Get 3 because when I use my pair for OH's, I miss having one for guitar.trodden wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 12:19 pmBeen on my "want list" for awhile now. A pair of Coles is never going to happen.Recycled_Brains wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 10:25 amProbably best case scenario.
