Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Been listening to these for over a week now, they really are good. Less low end, and more midrange, just like the originals. Which is fantastic, since we are still dealing with small speakers and earpieces and headphones at the user end of the music. I still will be using the JBL 4328P to listen to the bottom end and for a different sense of the mixes.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 6:39 amthose do look cool - I'd be interested how they work out for you...Nick Sevilla wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 8:03 pmnew pair of Avantone CLA-10A limited edition speakers. Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

DAV two-channel preamp. I’m pretty late to the party on these. They’re awesome. Clear but a little bit rounded up top.

Ex-pats coming home!
I haven’t heard about these before. How do they sound? I ask because looks like you can buy the 1081 in kit form from them for about $666, which is the magic number.
Edit: although looking at the build sheets, there are so many components so tightly packed together; seems like pre-built is a no brainer for these considering the finished price isn’t that much more.

I don't have those particular modules but I do have a preamp from AML (or Audio Maintenance Ltd - in the UK) - I've the 5003D, which is not made anymore and it's fantastic sounding. It was prebuilt (and only sold that way). I've been tempted build some of the kits but don't have any more empty slots. Anyway, there are couple older Tape Op Gear Reviews of some of the other AML stuff.

Just read the reviews on the AML stuff, sounds really nice and I love that it started as a DIY project.
Dammit, I think I’m starting to remember why I left the TOMB. . .
Seriously through, I quit Facebook in like 2015 and never joined anything else. I occasionally browse through Reddit. But honestly this board is the only one I really spent a legitimate bit of time on. And you are right trodden, this is the only one that I always felt better after reading it.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Another returner here! My latest acquisition is a WORKING display for my Juno G, which apparently people other than Roland are now manufacturing on their own. Mine's the same size as the original, is backlit, and works absolutely perfectly. If anyone else needs to fix theirs, i got mine at InstrumentalParts.com. There's a trick to installing it too - gotta pry off a tiny unnecessary circuit board near the opening first.
For those who may not remember, the Juno G was a great Fantom-based workstation which had a dreadful problem with their displays becoming utterly unusable (which Roland originally finally issued replacements for, but those were also not great, and they never made enough to go around), so many of us have had non-working Junos gathering dust for close to 2 decades now.
I have an ancient, busted 106 too, but the G really is good enough to not worry about that one for a while longer.

...do you believe that?

I have a friend doing stuff like that - last I saw he had a modern power supply for the Emulator II, some kind of memory retrofit for a lot of synths that doesn't need a leaky backup battery, etc. Also he was getting retrofit sliders for Arp gear from somewhere.transmothra wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 12:14 amAnother returner here! This is by far the best, and thus my only, regular music haunt; others exist for me only for technical references.

Technically, we Texans are not yet international or foreigners. But someone is always talking seccession, so who knows what's in store...

I was married to a Texan for a half a minute.
I seldom speak her name.
