(2) motu 896 = pops + clicks (HELP!!!)

I'm having a hard time w. my motu 896's. just hooked up a 2nd one & am now hearing pops & clicks that previously did not occur. I am running DP4 & OSX 10.2 on G4 Ti 1ghz powerbook. program is on laptop, projects & files live on external firewire drive (w. plenty of space).

I've selected both 896s in hardwarre config. menu & chose 1st as clock (set to internal). not sure what else to try. I'd appreciate any help.

do you have a wordclock (or other sync) cable between the 2 interfaces?

If so, did you set the setting on the second 896 to be word clock in?
