Let's hear some recordings made on the 388
i remember reading that Primus' Brown Album, one of my favorites, was recorded at least partly on an all-in-one Tascam like the 388. it's a great sounding thick and blatty album. anyone know for sure what it was recorded on?
edit: yes! i was right: http://www.ram.org/music/primus/article ... t1997.html

It was done on a 3m 16 trk with tons of micro limiters.
Les has an API console now.
I recorded "Suck On This" to a 388, and "Frizzle Fry" on an SSL/Studer way WAY back in the day. I asked Les if he still had any micro limiters and he said 'I have real compressors now" so he's obviously lost touch with his roots.

Dismal, I know. I record a different band pretty much every weekend with this setup.

I'm most proud of the Blame Game song that's up for download, but I've done better since then.
I love this machine!

Kelly Stoltz ......
His entire discography was tracked to his 388 -- some of the most incredibly cool mixed stuff I've heard in a long, long while. His latest CD "Crockodials" is a faithful (mostly, but when not.....fabulous) re-telling of Echo and the Bunnymen's Crocodiles 1980. His other stuff is psychedelic to be sure, but with melodies to die for. Anyway, no....I'm not his agent. Just really dig what a fellow basement studio nut can come up with, especially when they can actually write a song or three.

what a thread
Our band SPACE CAPTAIN recorded our album over the summer on my 388- which I am looking to get rid of for something more portable. we lost a VU light in the process.
Check out some of the tunes www.myspace.com/spacecaptain
"Its a Spiral Abyss" is mastered but it will take a day to show up on myspace, I'll have the other mastered versions up real soon.
There are pictures and details galore of the recording process here:

the record was mixed by an engineer who frequents these boards. he did a swell job.
oh the Album is called "Close your Eyes...OK- Now Open them"

Any chance you've got a current link to this? Is it still up somewhere?

We have lots of recordings on our Band Camp page.
The "Shape Up" and "Routes" EPs were recorded on the Tascam 388 (live off the floor, with vocals overdubbed afterwards)
"Distractions" and "You May Delay..." were both recorded on a Fostex Model 80 8 track 1/4" machine.
