I've had a few Yammies from this general era (CS1X, FS1R, MM6, etc.) & there's something about the distortion effect--a sort of plastickiness--that I find oddly appealing. It's not very natural sounding, but it has its own thing, and there were times when I found it to be a useful supplement to analog overdrive/distortion.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
there has been some discussion in this thread earlier about the Beyerdynamic DT-770's and DT-990's and proaudiostar.com has some really good prices on both right now (pretty sure its less than I paid for mine a couple years ago).

The whole thing has a bit of a sound, true. Right now I'm just grappling with understanding the programming, there's a massive amount of control. And if I initialize a voice so I can start from scratch, the insert effects don't work. EDIT, I figured it out. This is one of those things that are possible because digital - effects are common to all oscillators ("elements" in AWM2 speak), in fact the effects come after the common filter if I understand it correctly. But then you can choose which oscillator goes through which insert effect, so there's an on/off setting in the oscillator menu.

It started life as a 12 string but got converted some time in the 80s. There are a few purpose built 9 strings out there from verarious eras but they're rarities.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I was given a pair of Sennheiser MD402u mics. these are black so probably from the 90s or 2000's? Well built like most older Sennheiser mics are.
The frequency response is stated as 80-12.5Khz so it's a lo-fi kinda vibe. they were meant for spoken-word and they are super-cardioid. I found a few mentions saying they were a nice second mic on electric guitar cabs. As a room mic for drums, they are interesting (lo-fi for sure). the mics are not particularly sensitive so when far from a source they needed a lot of gain. Tried a quick check on acoustic guitar and in the right mix, it could work but this wouldn't be the first mic I'd grab. . I then tried it as overheads on drums in a sort of 3-mic Glyn Johns setup. The mic over the snare was kind of nice, but the floor tom side was very clicky since there is not really any low end to speak of (with a lot of EQ I got a bit...). i was able to coax a little bit more out by moving it closer to the drum head, but then it kinda blows out the mic... so it wasn't really working. but back to that snare. I put the mic on the side of the snare (micing the shell) and oh wow, now I've got something (and this was a Craviotto snare so the shell is worth micing...)! nice rejection of hihat and cymbals here too. would probably also work nicely underneath the snare.
Anyone else ever use these mics?

I've got the version with the 1/4 cable attached. It can be modded for balanced out (which I did) and ends up basically the same as the U version.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 1:42 pmI was given a pair of Sennheiser MD402u mics. these are black so probably from the 90s or 2000's? I don't use it all that often but I remember liking it on guitar amp. Gotta try it on snare shell next time I've got a drum session.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I don't know why I buy more guitars when I barely play the ones I've got lol... but got this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Grote-Electric-F ... B09433Q9Y5
Amazon gave me a $10 off (so it was ~$96 shipped). very light body (basswood). stock strings sucked. no sharp frets though and finish is pretty decent. Needed a truss rod adjustment and slight intonation adjustment, but overall pretty nice. even the pickups don't seem too bad but I'll have some real guitar players over to check it out soon (I'll report back if they disagree). new PUPS could be a pretty cheap mod. oh and pretty sure the knobs are plastic - they feel light. I think I may even have a pair to swap them out... probably the pots are sh*t too but they feel OK. and the tuners... well, I'll have to see.

50's Hofner classical guitar. Found it for $50 at a garage sale around the corner. Currently in pieces on the desk getting a neck reset and having some cracks glued and cleated.
Also recent picked up a 1971 Harmony mandolin. It had a crack in the back and some loose braces. All glued up and playing well now.
