is it possible (switch design)
1.
I need a quality switch that can switch between 3 different guitar amp speakers..basically I'm building a cabinet that will house a small tube amp at the top as well as three 10" speakers that I'm able to switch between..a Regular switch would be fine and most likely thats what I will end up with
Please recommend a good quality switch
that would do the job if you would be so kind..
or
2.
Would it be possible to have a "foot stomp" style switching mechanism that could do it? I think it would be more fun for the musician to be able to switch mid song..

A little spendy, but likely worthwhile:

output transformer to speaker A, or Speaker B, or Speaker C..never together..the cabinet will house all 3 10" speakers one on top of the other and the tube amp at the top..brianroth wrote:Making sure I understand....
OK, one amp and three different speaker boxes (A, B,C)?
You want to send the amp's output to A *or* B *or* C?
No need to do combinations like A *and* B, A *and* C, etc etc?
Bri
Two possible solutions, and the first is the simplest (but, precludes a "stomp box" controller)...
One pole, 3 position rotary switch, with contacts big enough to handle the current. Electroswitch manufacturers them, Mouser, DigiKey, etc sells them.
An electronically controlled "array" of relays, which could be operated via footswitch(es).

Thanks Bri you truely are a great help here..
now I'm sure a rotary or toggle switch like your talking about would be realatively inexpensive..could someone recommend one? also how do I figure out what the current is through the wires? you know as to purchase the correct type of switch?..my next question is how hard and expensive is it to do a relay thing like you say for the "stomp" control?..
This is the xfrmr:
Woodward-Schumacher TF500-0-606-528, 4K input, 8 ohm output
this is the amp:

You may want to check these out: http://www.tonebone.com/
More specifically: http://www.tonebone.com/tb-cabbone.htm
Not cheap, but may get you started...

thanks again..I need to research the why here..so I can do it again with other amps in the future..I think I might have an idea how to make a stomp switch from researching the terms you through out in the other post..brianroth wrote:For a small amplifier, a 2 Amp contact rating will suffice. Mouser (and others) stock Electroswitch models that can handle that current.

If you're thinking of hotswitching speakers while you're playing through the amp, I'd just recomend trying to find a make before break switch. If break before make, when you switch it can throw some really high voltage spikes back at your tubes which may shorten their life. In practical use it might not make any difference, but if you have a choice definitely lean toward make before break.
Or wire something like a 20 ohm 5 watt resistor permanently across the output of the amp (inside the switch box) so the output never sees a completely open circuit.
