Valley People Dynamite vs. Valley International Dynamite 2
I recently bought a Valley International Dynamite 2 off of Gearslutz, not entirely realizing that it has different controls from every other incarnation of the Dynamite. I've been using it, and I dig it; but I'm curious as to whether it's fundamentally different from the earlier Dynamite models. So far my research hasn't really turned up anything; any Valley People obsessives out there who might be able to help? Mostly, I'm just curious....
Thanks!
Thanks!

Don't know. Wish I could help. I can tell you that I have a Dynamite with the pink logo and it sounds to my ears just like the earlier silver ones I used at a studio where I once worked. The Dynamite 2 sounds cool though. Mine has Thres, Release, Range and Gain knobs along with a Int/DS/FM/ExtDet, a Exp/Out/Limit, and Gate/Pk/Avg toggle switches. Hope that made sense. Also has the Power and Link bottons. I love this compressor. It can be noisy though.

Yeah; I've seen those, and heard that they sound the same as the earlier models. Mine has a 3-way ratio switch, a 3-way gate / duck / expander switch, a knob for the limiter, and some other controls (if I remember correctly, there's a threshold knob for both the expander/gate and one for the compressor); I'll take a look next time I'm home. Mostly I'm wondering if it has the same VCA as the earlier models, or if it's a different beast altogether....

Wow. Doing this mod ASAP.Jim Williams wrote:Easily fixed. Replace IC1 and 2 to LME49740 quads for the TLO74's. Replace the 5534 on the output to a LME49710. Now it's very quiet and clearer.getreel wrote: I love this compressor. It can be noisy though.

Jim you're beautiful. Are those socketed or do I need a soldering gun ?Jim Williams wrote:Easily fixed. Replace IC1 and 2 to LME49740 quads for the TLO74's. Replace the 5534 on the output to a LME49710. Now it's very quiet and clearer.getreel wrote: I love this compressor. It can be noisy though.

There are sockets already installed, you just need to plug the new parts in.
They are available from Digi-Key. I did install a couple of local .1 uf mono ceramic caps on the rear for extra psu bypassing, but it's probably not required. I also replace the 1000 uf main caps with 2200 uf 35 v 105 degree caps and installed some 470 uf 25 v caps after the voltage regulators to stiffen up the power supply. Dynamite's don't have large psu bypass caps after the regulators, that does help the low end punch. I also replaced the "chicklets" mylar 8200 pf film cap used for the de-ess function with a Wima polypropylene fim cap.

just had a look at the schematic for this, i know Jim said IC 1 and IC2 TL074's are to be replaced, but in the schematic I have IC2 is listed as 4053. there are three other TL074's listed as U4, U5 and U9. is it worth it to replace all of these with the LME49740 or are some more important than others?
i can provide a copy of the schematic if anyone cares to have a look.
