Black Joe Louis, Electric Slave: less like funk, more like a Nuggets garage band with horns, out-keys The Black Keys, shouts even more like James Brown, and when did he get so good on guitar? 3.5/5 olives.

not much new stuff, still catching up from he past few years or but I gold classics
as of now:
Paul Duncan - Above the Trees
Folk songs with gorgeous arrangements; pedal steel, strings, and clarinet
The Byrds - Sweethart of the Rodeo
finally picked this up. great songs with the touch of twang that just feels right.
Shearwater - Animal Joy
the arrangements are fantastic, just not quite fond of the vocals...mane they'll grow in me like Jello Biafra did.

I've been completely obsessed with Arthur Russell. Have been listening to Calling Out of Context and the Sleeping Bag Sessions non-stop.

Also getting back into some of the punk rock of my youth; specifically Arcwelder and Boy Elroy (which I paid way too much for on ebay).

Other stuff I've been listening to: Neko Case's new one, Parquet Courts, The Monocrome Set, and a fair bit of jazz - we bought five Dexter Gordon discs at
Christmas.

Paul Buchanan's "Mid-Air." 24 little song sketches from the leader of the Blue Nile.
Johnny Dyani's "Afrika." Crazy album recorded totally live with steel drum, stand up and electric bass and some wild horns. I wore out copy on cassette years ago and recently found a legit CD. It sounds even better than I remember.

Steve Wynn, Northern Aggression: Cuppla years old now, but I keep going back to it for the psychadelia and sounds; altho' the mouth clicks annoy I recently sa a video of "The Life of Donnie B" and realize he's sometimes singing into a EV 667, so I can forgive.
Miles, Live Evil and Bitches Brew: great late nite grooves and intricacies.
Joe Cocker, Sheffield Steel: a nostalgic fave, and if the snare sounds 80's, it's Sly & Robbie and Cocker's in top vocal form. Cool songs, too, including the Dylan cover.

Page & Plant, No Quarter: a bit weirder ("Nobody's Fault", "Evermore" - kudos to the Denny-part singer), and a lot better than you prob'ly remember. Plant especially is in good voice, and when Page lets rip ("Since I been Lovin' You") it's very reminiscent of the best of some radioactive-containing prophylactic.
