My Auratones have the shiny bits peeling ...
While at it, anyone have any success with foam surrounds?

They have the speaker replacements. Which is pre assembled, all you do is drop them in.
Cheers

Speaker city have refoam kits:
http://www.speakercity.com/Merchant2/me ... y_Code=SRR
But they don't have a single photo or detailed description, so it's a crapshoot if you'll actually get what you're looking for. Way to do e-commerce, guys.
Parts Express also have kits for a variety of speakers, plus photos:

But I don't see anything specifically for Auratone, or 5" speakers in general.
googling "speaker surround repair kit" and "speaker surround repair video" turn up a bunch of links.

And these guys have 5" repair kits, and fairly detailed measurements and stuff to ensure proper fit:

If you dig a little deeper, they also have rubber surrounds:

I had foam surrounds onna pair of Rat Shack 5&1/4" Optimus speakers that worked even with holes, until they didn't. I replaced the woofers and they'll prob'ly be OK when broken in, but then I replaced the speakers with some from Monoprice with 6" woofers because I craved the bass. But them Rats, they had foam, and when I went to pull 'em, the foam just disintegrated like my dreams of ballin' Cindy Crawford did when she married Richard "the swallowing gigolo" Gere - yes, I'm that old. (Met her once when I was bartending - OK, twice.)
I don't know how to tell different rubbers from others (altho' I preferred lambskin until I heard they ain't so good at all for STD's) but the Auratones have some kind of that surround.

I should really try my hand at refoaming. i have a set of giant Kenwoods, and though I can easily replace the disintegrated woofers, the giant 15" passive radiators, which are basically a speaker frame and a cone, not so much.
The previous statement is from a guy who records his own, and other projects for fun. No money is made.
