Sudden large latency
Hi folks: Been a while since I've checked in to these parts. Hope everyone's doing well.
I just started having an odd problem. I'm still using a pretty ancient Pro Tools rig (PT 6.9, original MBox, on a decade-old Mac Mini). This past weekend, when listening back to any new overdubs, there would be a huge lag in the timing of the overdub, as if I'd played the entire overdub a 32nd-note late or so...
I'm not sure whether "latency" is technically the right word for this, since it sounds fine when performing the overdub, but the recording is clearly late compared to the actual performance.
Is this a sign that some part of my elderly system is finally starting to fail? Hard drive not writing fast enough? Interface not talking to the computer fast enough? I'm not technically savvy enough to know.

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

That, or the plug in version is badly written. Or you changed an audio driver, or a video driver, or the operating system... Tons of factors when it comes to plug ins.austin wrote:No Latency Compensation. I'm certain.
After removing an apparently resource-hogging plugin from a previously recorded track, all is well. I guess that suggests that my computer is just less able to handle multiple tasks than it used to be?
