Apple Lossless TuneCore question?
I'm going to try uploading my new CD to TuneCore, they request conversion to the Apple Lossless format-then I have no need to send in a CD etc. My question is which software is best for this conversion PC user here. I think buying Quicktime pro is the only way to get the ability to convert files to that lossless format. ITUNES free allows you to convert directly from a CD..I'd like to convert files not on CD..
Anyone with experience in this conversion process? Thanks

You can convert files in iTunes as well - just set the importing preference to Apple Lossless, drag your files into the library, then select them, and right- or control-click and select "Convert Selection To Apple Lossless".
No need for Quicktime Pro - and it's free.

I do believe iTunes will convert from AAC and MP3 to Apple Lossless, although I've never tried. But then, at least for this application, why would one really want to go from a lossy format to a lossless one? I suppose if all one had to strt with was lossy format files...Veej007 wrote:that works for wav and aiff. for anything else, try foobar or dbpoweramp.

Thanks everyone for the info
Thanks for the info on the lossless format. I'm hoping ITUNES coverts at the highest possible conversion, making the assumption that really there is only one lossless format level etc.

Re: Thanks everyone for the info
As the only setting is 'automatic' and the compression is lossless, I have to assume that is so, too.vxmike wrote:I'm hoping ITUNES coverts at the highest possible conversion, making the assumption that really there is only one lossless format level etc.
