Could you interview Jason Lytle of Grandaddy?
He just put out a new solo album that he recorded on his own, and I know he records to tape. He's also been around for a while now, so he would probably make for an interesting interview. Just a thought. I'm a big fan, so I know I would like it. Thanks.

+1 on the interview. Looking forward to picking up Jason's new record.mjau wrote:I think he's been interviewed already...anyone know which issue?
I'd love to see an in depth interview with Alan Sparhawk too- his stuff always sounds great, and he and his various projects have been all over the map with their sounds.

If so, it doesn't seem like a good one. Be nice to hear people weigh in every year or so.1964 wrote:Is that like a Tape Op rule or something... you only get one interview?

Yeah, I guess you're right. 6 issues per year really isn't a whole lot I guess. Never thought of it that way. I've only been getting it for 2 years now, but I love it.
Anyway, it would be boring to see repeat interviews if you didn't care about the artist.
And there probably is always someone new to interview. It's just that when you have someone who hasn't been interviewed in a while, you know that they probably will have changed a whole lot as a recording artist. New tools, new methods, new songs.... etc....
And in this case with Jason Lytle, I know a lot has changed since he no longer has his old band, and he moved to a different state... and it's however many years later.
It's not really a big deal. I was just hoping to throw out a couple of questions, since I like his recordings... and I'm fairly new to recording myself... well not new, but definitely still have a lot to learn. I'm recording on a tascam 246 if that gives you any idea.. But I like that thing... most of the time.
But yeah, no need to do repeat interviews if you have people lined up that you want to interview. But if not, then he would be a good one
I'll go away now...

We currently have about 300 people that future interviews are supposed to happen with. How many do we run a year? Probably less than 50.
I used to hate reading some of those other mags before I started Tape Op, where they'd always talk to the same fucking people over and over - many of whom have recorded Steely Dan. I'd think, "Uh, aren't there a lot of other records being made out there? And what about records that had been made years ago? And on all sorts of budgets?" To keep trotting our same old favorites out in the mag would be a disservice to our readers, in my mind.

Harrumph! That's why I quit reading the Steely Dan mags and picked up TapeOp.TapeOpLarry wrote:We currently have about 300 people that future interviews are supposed to happen with. How many do we run a year? Probably less than 50.
