Jeff,
You're the one with all of these ridiculous qualifiers for what counts as legitimate or not. In the last 5 years, how many of the records that you've worked on have ACTUALLY had a budget over $10,000? And, how many of them went on to sell over $10,000 worth of digital and physical copies? And, please name the records that did, because your credits come to a screeching halt around 2007 on AllMusic.
You present yourself in such a way that you want people to believe that these big budget, legitimate records are all that you work on. I think that if you're going to continue to insinuate that your ideas about the industry, and the work you do is somehow more legitimate than what most of the rest of us work on, you should put up, or shut your fucking mouth.
I've never claimed that the work I do is any more legitimate than what anyone else does. But, I'll be upfront and put it out there.
I've worked on exactly two records that have earned more than $10,000:
I mastered the Evangelicals' last album, "The Evening Descends", on Dead Oceans. It was recorded by the singer/guitarist for the band, in "hack", "illegitimate" fashion in his home. I mastered it for him (mostly just sequencing) for $200. This record earned well over $10,000.
I also was one of two engineers who recorded The Flaming Lips cover of "Dark Side Of The Moon" for Warner. They spent less than $5000 on the entire project. It was tracked and mixed in a week. Lips fans loved it. Floyd fans didn't. It was a pretty amazing experience for me. Earned well over $10,000.
So, what have you worked on the last few years, Jeff? Surely, some of the bar-coded, legitimate $10,000 budget records you've worked on will be things that people around hear have heard of. Right?
It's not unfair to ask you about what you work on, when you're entire persona on this board involves criticism of what others work on.

You did a session with David Coveralde in a major studio in Los Angeles in the 1990s and there was no coke around? Really? Really? Really? Really?
