XTC recording Towers of London
XTC recording Towers of London
Hi folks,
I just came across this cool doc on youtube and thought there are some here who might be interested. It's XTC recording with Steve Lillywhite at Richard Branson's manor in 1980.

Please do not make me regale you with stories of the time I played in Swindon and
A) got a letter from Colin Moulding wishing us luck with our show
and
B) had Andy Partridge's very cute daughter show up knowing all the words to our songs and then she called her dad so we could all say hello.
It may have been the greatest night of my life. I love that band.

Oh, Corin -- I UTSF before I posted this to see if it had been posted before, and read your great story about playing in Swindon I just heard your myspace stuff and really like it -- Holly Partridge has good taste in music!
It's great to see Terry Chambers playing on this documentary -- a friend of mine interviewed Andy Partridge after Mummer came out, and asked him whether the song "Me and the Wind" was about Terry leaving. There's all this drum-related language in the song -- "stool," "hoops," "crack the whip," etc, and it's about someone leaving. Partridge was flabbergasted because he'd never even thought of it himself.

Holly's band is really good, too. They are called the Shebeats, she has sort of a Chrissie Hynde thing going on. They're really working hard, playing all over the UK.

"What you see is NOT them recording the famous version from "Black Sea," but a carefully reconstructed remake of the song, which had already charted (despite what is said in the narration at the beginning)"
still very cool to watch. doesn't have a re-creation vibe or acting at all.

I drove Andy all over San Francisco in my car with no seats belts one night after we did a radio interview together in 91. I asked him what beer he wanted me to grab from the liquor store. He requested Miller. We drank some beers then went out to dinner and told stories all night. That guy can spin a yarn. I wish he had the success he always deserved. What a great band.
