8 track cartridge transfer
8 track cartridge transfer
Since I'm here asking for help, and digging through tape related stuff.
I have a 8 trk that has my dad's families band on it.
I would love to see him have a copy. He hasn't heard it in probably 20 years.
I have considered buying a playback machine, but it's a one off.
Anyone want a very small transfer job?
I would want to get the actual cartridge back for sentimental reasons.
thanks in advance

Re: 8 track cartridge transfer
Someone's got this here, I'm sure of it. I would if I could (about the only basic format I don't have access to).
BUT, if for some reason nobody here can/will, let me know (PM here or e-mail to RhythmGJ at Yahoo dot com). I can ask over at AudioKarma and I know someone there (several probably) still run 8-track.

Re: 8 track cartridge transfer
Oh, quick thought though-- Is it actual commercial 8-track or is it cart? "Cart machines" were used in radio stations and studios, and look a lot like 8-track, but are different enough not to work interchangeably.
If it's a band tape, it's more likely a cart than an 8-track, but who knows. Make sure before we ask anyone else though.

Re: 8 track cartridge transfer
It's a consumer release, not a radio cartridge.
Thanks for your interest.

Re: 8 track cartridge transfer
I have a Panasonic 8 track recorder/player deck that may be able to, but it’s functional condition is dubious at the moment (haven’t messed with it in a few years).
Re: 8 track cartridge transfer
I'll check some of the above recommendations.
I wanted to check on tapo op first, because, trust..
Thanks

I have a super old Ampex 8-track, have you tried geting your own either at a thrift store or places like 8-track Heaven?

The previous statement is from a guy who records his own, and other projects for fun. No money is made.
Re: 8 track cartridge transfer
I've contacted Katestrackshack. Waiting on a reply. I have looked into buying a machine, but this the only time I see using it, so figured I should out source it. Thanks for the input
Re: 8 track cartridge transfer
Kate's track shack did me well. Quick response, good communication, fine results.

Re: 8 track cartridge transfer
Excellent. For research purposes, would you feel comfortable sharing the cost?

"For research purposes"?
Or are you just trying to avoid having to buy the CD's to replace your Molly Hatchet 8-track collection?

I had that one, used t' play it in my Pinto. I had Sound Design home stereo speakers wired in the back; we'd set 'em on the roof while we drank Lowenbrau in the forest preserves. Crankin' the Hatchett! And Foghat! And Frampton!
I haven't actually heard a 8-track in mebbe 35+ years.
