Well yeah, I'd imagine so. That's the whole Radio Design Labs thing, odd little problem solvers. Need a mic preamp to feed the bingo announcements into the organ speaker? They've got you covered! Need to mix a stereo thing down to one mono channel for the ceiling speakers? No problem! I don't imagine that any of it has the Special Sauce sound, but on the other hand they'll happily sit under a blanket of dust for thirty years of 24/7 usage.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 6:09 pmthese are meant more for permanent installation in a Muzak system I think.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I picked up those Amazon SDC shock mounts mentioned earlier for my Oktavas. Really nice for the price.
I also got Kazrog's True Iron and True Dynamics. The 26W compressor is SOOO THICK sounding. Wow. They have a sale going on right now. I want to try their 242 and Synth warmer plugs but really trying to not buy anything for a bit.

Yeah, those SDC shock mounts are great! I'm still surprised by how cheap they are!.T-rex wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 3:36 pmI picked up those Amazon SDC shock mounts mentioned earlier for my Oktavas. Really nice for the price.

The True Iron has become one of my favorite new plugs.
Thanks for mentioning the sale! I've been wanting the 5150 guitar head they make.
Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
a Slick tele, my third - I love the sound and playability and look, but damn this one is heavy
a 50% steel guitar - cool with heavy distortion, I already had the requisite bar slide (on top, a bunch of other "slides" I use at lower right)
the Fox pedal Killface (bass) and Kingdom (guitar) dirt pedals, very flexible and sound great, stack well and are cool with boosts in front, the Killface is good on guitar, as well
Keeley Phat drive - a very flexible boost-to-dirt drive
the Fender Hammertone delay - this might be what I was looking for, surprisingly enuff on the "digital" setting - I fell into it for about a half hour last night
MXR Super Badass Fuzz - has a built-in Variac which is fun, kinda like a bias adjustment ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I don't know if plugins count as "new gear" but I gotta say that the Kazrog True Iron and True Dynamics plugs are fucking tasty. I've still not messed with "HEAT" but i've been throwing True Iron on individual tracks as well as busses, and really like the subtleness.
I've also been stacking instances of the Lindell 50 buss plug on busses, with each one modeling a different channel on the "console" and I like how it's making things like bass guitar and high gain electric guitars have more "weight" and open up in a pleasing manner.
I should have done this pro tools and computer upgrade years ago. I've always been a "less is more" type of engineer, mostly due to technology and my access to it. But seems like it's getting too easy to have 3-5 plugs on a track at a time which is probably gonna get me into some trouble. But at the same time, i was stacking outboard EQ and other hardware before hand and now not feeling the need for it. That said, I'm still hanging onto one Effectron for delay and it's crunchy limiter section as well as keeping all my outboard compressors for tracking.

True Dynamics is worth it for the 26W alone. That thing is thick as hell.
Yeah, so I've been doing that a lot more lately. I too was trying to keep it simple on the mixing thing but now I'm like, fuck it, if another plugin on this track makes it sound better, I'm throwing it on there.

We need to remind ourselves that if it sounds better, then it sounds better. We all know our gain staging rules, and I think that's where some people fuck up. I'm still trying to wrap my head around "over sampling" and other "computer techy" crap.T-rex wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 6:11 pmI loved my affections, really miss those.trodden wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 5:55 pmI don't know if plugins count as "new gear" but I gotta say that the Kazrog True Iron and True Dynamics plugs are fucking tasty. I watched a Dan Worrell video on over sampling and now it makes sense to me. But it was an hour of my life I'll never get back.trodden wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 6:14 pmWe need to remind ourselves that if it sounds better, then it sounds better. Yeah, a lot of plugins have a small bump in gain as soon as you engage them (looking at you waves and UAD) so they immediately sound better. I try to set my defaults on those with the output down to compensate and that helps a lot when popping it on a track.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Been a while since I posted here...
Recently got a Sadowsky Bass Preamp/DI - to juice up the bridge pickups on several Jazz basses I have. One of the few preamp pedals I've tried that seems to darken up the tone a little, like it a lot!
Also a Quilter InterBass pedal...one of the most useful devices I've ever bought in 39 years of music making. A floor pedal with an amp that drives up to 44 watts into a 4 ohm load. Great sounding preamp with a "vintage" switch that gets it into mini-SVT territory. I'm not crazy about the distortion/overdrive on most solid-state bass amps, but this has just the right amount of breakup/sag to make it really feel, and sound tube-like. This thing would be perfect if there were a post-all-processing-but-pre-master output.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Bought a new 2023 Macbook Pro Silicon M2Pro chipset laptop. Our oldest is going to University this Fall, so he gets my trusty 2019 Macbook Pro Intel i9, which has served me so fantastically well.
It took two days to port over all the apps I own into this new laptop LOL, not for the faint of heart.
It has Pro Tools 2023.12, Nuendo 13, Logic Pro X, and well over 1,000 plugins, some of which did not make the transition, as they are not supported any longer.

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

I don’t have an arm Mac for home yet, but I have had an 16gb m1 Mac mini at work (graphic design) and it has been a very impressive machine for everything I do despite a fairly minimal spec (except Microsoft one drive, which is possibly the worst application ever made). Looking forward to some day replacing my vintage Mac Pro with one.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I ordered an Eastwood Classic 12 B-stock at 40% off. I've been lusting after one for a while. I wanted a different color, but $449 for a $749 guitar was too good of a deal to pass up.
Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Do you play any other electric 12s? I got a Schecter Ultracure xii awhile back on a similar good deal, but not historically been a 12 string person.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I've played some here and there. I want this as a studio tool. I'm not a gigging guitar player or anything. I want to be able to say "let's put a 12-string on this" and hand it to clients. Than and goof off with it on occasion.
The Schecter looks cool. Is it comfortable?
